Precipitation in Al-alloys
Because it is a diffraction-type measurement (i.e. in reciprocal space), small-angle scattering only allows complete characterization of the precipitate microstructure through a direct-space interpretation model. In other terms, SAXS/SANS need to be combined with with other experimental techniques such as TEM for shape and structure and atom probe tomography (APT) for chemical compositions. In this talk, I will show examples of these succesful combined experiments, in particular between SAXS and APT. I will then explain what the SAXS theory and formalism can bring to APT data assessment and analysis, and how closer quantitative comparisons should be useful for both communities.
