Everyone is talking about hydrogen and its application in industry to fight CO₂ emissions. Research and industry are analysing ways to use hydrogen for green steel production. However, it’s difficult and costly to store and transport hydrogen. Dr. Yan Ma explains how ammonia can be used as a hydrogen carrier thus being easily transported with already established transcontinental logistics. Moreover, using ammonia has several advantages for the reduction of iron ore and the alloying to produce steel.
