Disassembling nano-structures atom by atom
Atom Probe Tomography enables us to identify and map atoms in three-dimensions on a nanometer-scale. The insight gained from APT analysis are a first step towards controlling the assembly of materials and structures on the atomic scale - promising considerable progress in a wide range of applications that can be utilized amongst others in the electronic, energy, chemical and health care industry. The longtime application of APT in the metal industry and its recent successful adoption by the semiconductor industry has encouraged further work into extending the applicability of APT to new materials. Here we will show and discuss the progress we have made in applying APT to new materials and structures with applications in electronical and optical devices as well as the healthcare sector.
