Supervision

The close supervision is an important part of the doctoral program and serves not only as a kind of progress control but mainly as a support for the students. It assists them to proceed and finish the PhD successfully within the given time frame of three till three and a half years.

Each student has at least two supervisors from different departments or partner institutes. The working place is in general at the institute of the main supervisor, but there is also the possibility to use the facilities of the other partner institutes.

Besides the scientific supervisors the scientific coordinator as well as the program coordinator of the IMPRS SusMet are permanent contact persons in case of scientific and any other questions.

After each year the students fill in a form called yearly report that gives the scientific and the program coordinator an overview on the curricular activities and the progress of the scientific work.

The meetings with the Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC) take place once a year. The TAC consists of the supervisors and a member of the SusMet coordinatin team. Further members can be invited.This committee monitors the progress of the doctoral work, it gives advice and scientific input about the research work of the student and supports planning the further proceeding.
