Professional Skills

Additional offers of the IMPRS SusMet aim to enhance the professional skills of the PhD students, for example soft skill trainings, German language courses and career development.

Soft skill trainings are organized three times a year. Topics are for example presentation skills, scientific writing, negotiation and leadership skills. Also demands of the doctoral students are considered.

German language courses are offered at the universities of Bochum, Duisburg-Essen and Düsseldorf. The IMPRS SusMet explicitely supports the participation in German language courses as a very important step for integration.

In order to prepare the students for their future professional life, career development is also part of the IMPRS-SurMat curriculum realized by professional skills workshops about leadership skills, career planning and how to apply in industry and academia. Further, there is a talk serie “Career Paths after PhD presented by Alumni”.
