Nafiseh Samiseresht wins Poster Award

November 02, 2022

Nafiseh Samiseresht won the 2nd place poster prize at the RESOLV Cluster of Excellence Klausurtagung. Her poster titled “Infrared nanospectroscopic investigation on salvation of nanostructured SAMs” was chosen among 50 posters presented.

Samiseresht graduated in physics from the University of Cologne and is now doing her PhD at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (MPIE) in the “Spectroscopy at Electrochemical Interfaces” research group. The aim of her project is to shed light on the structure of thin water films adsorbed on nanostructured self-assembled-monolayers (SAMs).  This interface water underlines most surface reactions and its properties are influenced by the surface nanostructure and chemistry. For the first time, Samiseresht uses resonance enhanced nano spectroscopy combined with atomic force microscopy to reach nanoscale understanding of interface solvation.

Ruhr Explores Salvation (RESOLV) is a consortium bringing together 200 scientists from six research institutions in the German Ruhr area, among others the MPIE, the Ruhr University Bochum and the Technical University Dortmund. Its mission is to advance global research on solvation sciences. RESOLV trains around 100 PhD students and collaborates with over 20 research institutions around the world.
