Christmas Market in Aachen

On December 4th 2024, the NG group took a lab tour in Prof. Schneider’s group and visited a traditional Christmas market in Aachen.

Congratulations to Eleonora!

In November 2024, Dr. Eleonora Isotta was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship. Through the project 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗦𝗖𝗧, we will explore the interplay between 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 of grain boundaries via correlated local-scale measurements. Our mission is to understand how to design grain boundaries in thermoelectric materials for enhanced performance.

Congratulations to Miquel!

On October 21st 2024, Miquel successfully completed his PhD defense.

Night of Science

In September 2024 Tonya Kloos presented in a public talk the science behind fuel cells and current work in this field on the Night of Science in Düsseldorf. On this day scientists from different research fields are invited to present current research in a lecture series and in info booths to the public.

Trip to Copenhagen!

In August 2024, NG group participated at the 17^th European Microscopy Congress 2024 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Summer party!

In August 2024, the NG group held a summer party at Prof. Scheu’s house. We enjoyed a barbecue and a lively atmosphere.

On July 3rd 2024, Dominique won the poster award at 40^th International & 20^th European Conference on Thermoelectrics in Krakow, Poland.

Max Planck Africa Mobility Grant

Prof. Zineb Kassab has been awarded with the Max Planck Africa Mobility Grant from the Max Planck Society. This grant enables her to deepen her collaboration with the Nanoanalytics & Interfaces group.

Best Poster Presentation

Dominique Mattlat was awarded for the best poster presentation at the European Conference on Thermoelectrics ETC2024 by the European Thermoelectric Society e.V. .

Borchers Badge

Dr. Rasa Changizi was awarded with the Borchers Badge for her outstanding PhD thesis “Structural Analysis and Correlative Cathodoluminescence Investigations of Pr (doped) Niobates”.

Ramon y Cajal Fellowship

The Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness awarded Dr. Alba Garzón Manjón with a grant from the Ramón y Cajal grants program.

World record in solar cell efficiency achieved

Through the joint effort from scientists at the Universities of Wuppertal, Cologne, Potsdam, Tübingen, the Helmholtz Center Berlin and the MPIE, the first organic-perovskite solar cell with an efficiency of 24% was presented. Simulations show a theoretical limit of 30%, which can be achieved with further innovations.
Leonie Gomell and Siyuan Zhang are co-authors of the publication. The recent findings are published under:

Communication Award

Rasa Changizi & Raquel Aymerich Armengol won, as two of 5 other scientists, our Inhouse Science Video Competition for the ability to distill complex scientific topics in a generally understandable way through short videos. They will receive a camera- and storytelling training completed with a film taken by a professional film team. November 2021

First Prize in Image Competition at the Microscopy Conference 2019

Rasa Changizi has won the first prize in the "Arts in Science" image competition at the "Microscopy Conference 2019" (MC) in Berlin.
