We live diversity. We see MPIE as a place of active exchange and appreciative cooperation. At our institute, all people should feel welcome and comfortable and be able to develop their potential, regardless of ethnic origin, skin colour, nationality, religion, culture, age, disability, sexual and gender identity or ideology. We recognize and value these diverse differences among people and see it as our responsibility to break down the barriers that stand in the way of equal participation for all. Inevitably, this means we actively oppose racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination.

For decades, our international and diverse workforce has enabled scientific excellence, to which we are committed as an institute of basic research. We are only able to solve the pressing questions and challenges of our time within the framework of appreciative cooperation.

We actively promote diversity and non-discrimination while remaining self-critical and adaptive. Through presentations and training, we raise awareness on the topic and question structures that lead to discrimination. Commitment to diversity in the workplace is an ongoing process. That is why we are constantly working to make the institute and the way we interact with each other more inclusive and to create an atmosphere in which everyone feels valued and comfortable.

Social action against discrimination and for diversity is important to us. As a sign of this, we have signed the Joint Declaration against Sexism. The idea of the initiators is to oppose the omnipresent sexism in our everyday life.

Since March 2022, we have also been a signatory to the Diversity Charter. Our institute thus sends a clear signal against discrimination of any kind and commits itself to designing measures for a working environment that is as free of prejudice and characterized by mutual respect as possible. Only if everyone is interested in working together in an open, appreciative working environment can a positive working climate be created. Only when everyone can develop their talents in the best possible way diverse ideas and thus sustainable success can be generated.
