Mechanics Meets Energy

Symposium “Mechanics meets Energy” 2026

From 12th to 16th January 2026, the 13th “Mechanics Meets Energy” symposium took place in Loccum. The Tagungsstätte Loccum is located in beautiful surroundings, within walking distance of a medieval Cistercian monastery and a wonderful forest landscape.

Around 60 scientists from different stages of their careers came together to discuss current research findings, develop new ideas, and deepen existing collaborations. The quiet, monastic atmosphere of Loccum provided the ideal setting for this, enabling concentrated work as well as informal discussions outside of the scientific program.

All researchers from the SN and NG departments presented their scientific results and highlights. Moreover, invited speakers, including Dominique Chatain (Aix Marseille Université - CNRS, France), Hanna Bishara (Tel-Aviv University, Israel), and Janez Zavašnik (Jožef Stefan Institute, Slovenia), as well as two invited speakers from the MA department, gave inspiring talks on their researches.

A particular highlight of the week was the poster session, which attracted a great deal of interest. In a lively atmosphere, numerous posters were presented, showcasing current projects, new methods, and preliminary results. The session offered younger researchers in particular a platform to present their work and receive direct feedback.

We appreciate the efforts of the team at Tagungsstätte Loccum for hosting our symposium and accommodating us. We had a very pleasant week there!
