Inspiring change: women driving scientific progress

International Day of Women in Science 2025

February 11, 2025

Newton and Einstein are celebrated names in science - but what about Donna Strickland, who transformed laser technology and became the first woman in 55 years to win a Nobel Prize in Physics? Or Ada Lovelace, a pioneer of modern computing? And Stephanie Kwolek, whose discovery of Kevlar has saved countless lives?

On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we recognize the women shaping research today. While progress has been made in empowering women, challenges remain - women are still underrepresented in leadership roles, and societal norms continue to influence career choices. Visibility and representation matter. The more female role models we highlight, the more we inspire future generations to push boundaries.

At MPI-SusMat, we are committed to fostering gender equality - both in research and beyond.
