Max Planck material testers are the best in North Rhine Westphalia
Zakarya Meshou and Liam Monaghan honoured by the Chambers of Industry and Commerce of North Rhine Westphalia
Zakarya Meshou and Liam Monaghan passed their three-year training as materials testers at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (MPIE) with distinction and were honoured by the 16 Chambers of Industry and Commerce of North Rhine-Westphalia as the best trainees 2023 in their profession. The official ceremony took place on 3 November in Aachen, where the best apprentices in the various professions were honoured.
"I have always been interested in physics and chemistry, but I didn't want to start studying right away. After a tryout day at MPIE, I knew that training as a materials tester would ideally combine both subjects and also prepare me for university studies later on”, says Meshou. He passed his final exam with 96% and is now studying materials science since this winter semester 2023/24.
"I am happy to have completed my training so well. Before the apprenticeship, I studied business chemistry for two semesters, but quickly realised that a structured programme suited me better. That's why I looked for an apprenticeship that matched my interest in maths and technology, and came across materials testing. Now I feel very well prepared to study mechanical engineering”, says Monaghan. He passed his final exams with 97% and has started his studies at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences.
Every year, the Chambers of Industry and Commerce in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) award prizes to the two best candidates in each of the almost 150 training occupations examined by the them. In addition to training in materials testing, MPIE also offers training in the fields of chemical laboratory technician, industrial mechanic and mathematical-technical software development. In cooperation with the IU University of Applied Sciences, a dual study programme in business administration and economics is also possible.
