How to communicate science

MPIE scientists win inhouse communication award

November 10, 2021

How can complex scientific topics be explained in a generally understandable and exciting way and conveyed in a short video? Scientists at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (MPIE) competed in an inhouse science communication contest. The applicants were asked to present their research in a short, comprehensible video.

The winners are Raquel Aymerich Armengol and Rasa Changizi, both doctoral students in the research group "Nanoanalytics and Interfaces". From the department "Structure and Nano-/Micromechanics of Materials", PhD student Reza Hosseinabadi prevailed. In addition, Dr. Ayman El-Zoka, postdoc from the department "Microstructure Physics and Alloy Design" and Eslam Ibrahim Saad, master student in the department "Computational Materials Design" convinced the jury with their videos.

Presenting complex scientific issues in a generally understandable way is an art in itself. In order to promote the existing talent, the winners will participate in a professional camera and storytelling training. Afterwards, the winners will each receive their own professional video on a key MPIE topic, such as green steel, robotic microscopy or energy materials.
