MPIE goes green

MPIE goes green

January 14, 2021

In February 2020, the Sustainability Group of MPIE was established, consisting of technical and administration staff, students and researchers. They aim to improve daily practices in waste reduction, promote recycling methods and foster a green agenda for the MPIE community. For instance, they have installed stations for recycling printer toner cartridges, and are updating the general waste disposal system inside MPIE by introducing separate bins for paper, plastic and general waste, following German recycling guidelines. In their future planning, a garden with pollinator-friendly plants will be established that directly links to the we4bee project, in which MPIE already participates, with a beehive containing a colony of about 10.000 bees. In the future, they will also engage and initiate efforts to support green travel and commuting by, for example, improving the bicycle infrastructure at the institute. The MPIE Sustainability Group also participates in workshops organized by the MPG Sustainability Group, in order to exchange ideas and discuss general sustainability policies with other MPI Sustainability Groups.
