Family and career under one roof
The Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (MPIE) is happy to expand more and more its services in the area of “Work life balance”. Since summer 2017, MPIE employees are able to access places at a private children daycare centre, a so-called Kita. Due to a high demand, the institute even doubled the places since summer 2018. The MPIE employees can register their children under three years in the Kita and take advantage of the institute’s reserved places there. This way the children experience the best possible care meanwhile their parents are able to follow their work without limitations and full flexibility.
The Max Planck institute strives towards a better work life balance and a general well-being of its employees. It cooperates with an external family service, which provides children day care, information and help concerning elder care as well as workshops on the topics resilience, stress management and inner well-being. Moreover, the newly established health management offers weekly sports activities at the institute and information on health at the work place. Together with the person in charge for equal opportunities, a mentor supports female scientists with their career planning. Persons of trust and an ombudsperson ensure that a good working atmosphere and scientific practice are maintained. An international office helps foreign newcomers with relocation issues such as finding accommodation, handling administrational topics and understanding cultural differences.
