Universität Duisburg-Essen

The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) was founded in 2003 by merging the universities Duisburg and Essen.

Materials and nanoscience are a profile research area at UDE and coordinated by the Center for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen (CENIDE). Founded in 2005, CENIDE connects over 80 PIs and 400 PhD candidates, and is internationally recognized for its cutting-edge materials research and development: A central aspect of CENIDE’s mission is integrating fundamental understanding at the nanoscale to create new sustainable solutions for major societal challenges in energy, information technology, and health.

CENIDE provides access to state-of-the-art infrastructure such as the research building NanoEnergieTechnikZentrum (NETZ) and the Interdisciplinary Center for Analytics on the Nanoscale (ICAN). ICAN provides a wide range of metrology including aberration-corrected TEM, XPS, AFM/SPM, TOF-SIMS, and scanning Auger microscopy. Since 2013, the innovative research building NETZ has been offering excellent research conditions at the campus in Duisburg. Here, an interdisciplinary team of about 120 scientists performs research on new functional materials for applications in energy technology by investigating them with regard to industrial utilization and sustainability as well as developing scalable processes for their production and processing.
