From the laboratory to industry

Max Planck Scientists at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe in Dortmund

May 06, 2015

A group of doctoral students from the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (MPIE) visited the production sites of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe in Dortmund on Monday, 4th May 2015. ThyssenKrupp, a worldwide leading steel producer, gave the young scientists the chance to get an insight on steel production on a large scale. In the research centre Dortmunder OberflächenCentrum coatings for flat steel are developed and tested. The PhD students were able to watch the industrial application of these surface refinements at the continuous production lines for annealing and hot-galvanizing.

A few months ago, on 27th March 2015, ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe presented itself at the MPIE as a potential employer. This event is part of a new series of one-day events on career perspectives of Max Planck scientists. The series is jointly organized by the PhD representatives and the board of directors of the MPIE. More company presentations as well as job application trainings and funding possibilities for industry as well as for an academic career will follow. The intention of these events is to bring together leading experts from industry and the MPIE PhD students to have in depth discussions about career possibilities after the time at the MPIE.
