Prize for Wei Luo at the Nanobrücken 2017 conference
Wei Luo, since the end of 2014 doctoral student in the group “Intermetallic Materials” at the department “Structure and Nano- / Micromechanics of Materials”, won the Best Student Talk award at the “Nanobrücken 2017” conference in Manchester, UK, for his presentation on the connection between the chemical composition and the fracture toughness of hard, brittle phases: “Fracture Toughness of Hexagonal and Cubic NbCo2 Laves Phases“. For his experiments Luo uses so-called diffusion couples in order to produce a microstructure with chemical gradients. Afterwards he investigates the local fracture toughness by applying in situ micromechanics.
The “Nanobrücken 2017” conference took place from the 4th to 6th of April at the University of Manchester and was dedicated to all aspects of nanomechanical and nanotribological testing. During several presentations, workshops and a poster session the leading European researchers in this field came together.
