Awards at the MikPräp 2017

April 13, 2017

Five metallographers and material scientists of the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (MPIE) were awarded for their posters at the MikPräp 2017, a conference for microscopy and preparation. The conference took place on the 23rd of March at the Technische Berufskolleg Solingen. Out of 16 posters, Heidi Bögershausen and Luca Bender were awarded with the second place for their poster about “Household Items and Groceries as Alternative Etching Methods”. Dr. Martin Diehl, Christian Broß und Prof. Dr. Dierk Raabe received the award for the third place for their poster about the ”Quasi In Situ Analysis of Static Recrystallization in DC 04 Steel“. Furthermore, Till Freieck gave an excellent talk on “The Influence of different Preparational Methods on different Materials”. He will have the chance to publish his talk in a journal of the German Society for Material Science (DGM).

The MikPräp is mainly directed to material testers and materials scientists, but also addresses interested students. It offers not only a possibility for an exchange of experiences through several workshops, exhibitions and presentations, but also an overview on daily professional life in the different fields of material science. The conference was organised by Joachim Laimmer (Open Grid Europe), Heidi Bögershausen and Angelika Bobrowski (MPIE), the board of the gmr² (Society for Metallography Rhine Ruhr) as well as by the teachers of the Technische Berufskolleg Solingen.

The Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung offers apprenticeships in six different fields. Besides two dual study programmes for chemical laboratory assistants and mathematical-technical software developers, the MPIE trains in four other professions: material tester with a focus on metal engineering, office clerk, industrial mechanic, and IT specialist for system integration.
