Volker Heine Young Investigator Award given to Christoph Freysoldt

October 30, 2010

In the frame of the conference “Psi-k 2010” organised by the Yk community every five years, Christoph Freysoldt, head of the group Defect Chemistry and Spectroscopy, won the Volker Heine Young Investigator Award. With this he is honoured for his outstanding research on ab initio finite-size corrections for electrostatic artifacts in charged-defect supercell calculations.

From initially more than 20 candidates for this prize, five were chosen to present their work in an oral presentation during the workshop. A commission of internationally renowned scientists were in charge of choosing the winner.

Volker Heine, patron of the prize, was one of the founders of the Yk community, the European network for scientists working on electronic structure methods. The Volker Heine Young Investigator Award carries a value of 2500€.
