June 15th: VIP-Visit at the MPIE

The North-Rhine-Westphalian State Secretary Lersch-Mense visited the MPIE on June 15th.

Focus of the visit was the link between science and industry in the field of metal research. The MPIE is outstanding in this field, because it is the only institute of the Max-Planck-Society which is co-financed by the Verein Deutscher Eisenhüttenleute, representing the German steel industry. Highlight of the visit was a tour through the institute and its laboratories. During the tour, the scientists of the institute explained the importance of electrochemistry for research in the field of energy, how to simulate materials in a 3-D-modell and how the structure of materials can be analyzed by the atom probe tomography.
