Best Poster Awards for Vera M. Marx and Peter J. Imrich

October 28, 2013

The Micromechanics Group in the Department of Structure and Nano-/Micromechanics of Materials were the big winners at this year's ECI Conference "Nano- and Micro-Mechanical Testing in Materials Research and Development IV" in Olhao, Portugal. The two main prizes at this most important conference in the field of micro-mechanics were brought back to Düsseldorf.

Vera M. Marx explained in her poster "Deformation behaviour of thin Cu / Cr films on polyimide” how to measure and improve the plastic deformation as well as adhesion properties of thin metal layers on flexible electronics products. She chose a combination of different in situ methods (such as atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray residual stress measurements), through which a very deep insight into the behaviour of these complex composite materials was gained.

Peter J. Imrich, doctoral student at the University of Leoben and guest scientist at the MPIE, presented fundamental work on the grain boundary dislocation interaction in sub-micron copper small print samples. In addition to winning the main prize at the second poster session for his poster “In situ compression testing of miniaturized Cu samples with grain boundaries", Peter also won the prize for the funniest poster pre-presentation. Congratulations to both winners!
