Dr. Daria Smirnova
Main Focus
- Atomistic studies of properties of structural defects, thermal effects, phase transitions, self diffusion in pure metals and alloys, behavior of hydrogen in metallic systems.
- Extensive experience in interatomic potential development. The potentials developed by Dr. Smirnova are included in the NIST Interatomic Potentials Repository Project (http://www.ctcms.nist.gov/potentials).
- In 2021-2023: Participation in the project SFB/Transregio 103 "From atoms to turbine blades - a scientific basis for a new generation of single crystal superalloys". Role in the project: atomistic simulations of elementary dislocation processes with focus on dislocation climb in fcc metals.
- Since 2025: Work on a personal project funded by the DFG, the topic is “Establishing a role of composition and applied stress in behavior of hydrogen near crystal defects in Fe-Cr and Fe-Ni alloys”
