  • Solid state dewetting phenomena of thin films
  • Formation processes and analysis of nanostructures
  • Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods: CS corrected high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), CS corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM; BF/DF/HAADF), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS)
  • Focused ion beam (FIB) methods for site-specific TEM lamella preparation (in situ lift-out technique) and site-specific cross-section preparation
  • Molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) for epitaxial thin film growth
  • Further methods for sample characterization: Atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD)  and different secondary electron microscopy (SEM) methods: i.a. electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) or energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX)
  • (Ultra-) High Vacuum technology, setup and design (computer-aided engineering and design: Solid Edge)
